State/city

State/city

Is really hard for me to explain this but im goin to try.

I need to create a list of States. I know how to do it, also i know how to do a list of cities. But what i need is when someone is adding a house and select for example State1 the cities just show the ones that are from State1.

Maybe is hard to understand me, if u dont understand just say to me and ill try to explain in a diferent way.

Thank You.

Re: State/city

What you want is called (or generally referred to) as "Chained Selects"

Now, for Search Pages, it's possible and script available on these forums (heres an example; http://www.silverdiscountproperties.com … searchpage)

However, if want your looking for is "Chained Selects" for when people ADD listings, thats a different story...

Re: State/city

I do think that there should be a form of chained select for states and cities during listing entry.

The way I restrict cities and states in our OR setup was to use pclass fields as regions. Then each pclass would have it's own drop down box city field (i.e. the field name would be city_southcarolina, city_georgia, etc). Each gad its own drop down box state field that contained only the entry for that state.

Of course, this will not work with Orodha if you are using the maps because you need to define a single state field and single city field.

Why do I think this is such a big deal? An example is one of our service area, Hilton Head Island. If the city field is left up to agents to input I know we'll see the following variations:

Hilton Head Island
Hilton Head
Hilton Head Isl.

So what should be one city in the search fields is now 3 cities. I can probably add some code to handle that one instance, but what about other locations and spelling errors? Text field input for city names is a bad idea.

Our sites are all multi-state sites, so it does not make sense to set up a drop down list with every single city from all of the states we service.

Heck, I have a better idea than chained select - what about using zip code lookup? The agent enters the zip code and it automatically populates the city and the state.

Re: State/city

Hello there. I'm David M and I’m new to this community forum.

I just wished to introduce myself and let you know how good www.orodha.com is. My pastimes are Foodball, Rugby and Motor Sports. In my spare time I attempt to run an <a href=http://www.seoforumtips.com>SEO Forum</a> myself. I look ahead to meeting new people and including a couple of opinions on this superb forum. Be warned however because I say what I feel and sometimes I just open my mouth and it gets me in trouble.
